I don't know how many of you have heard of the website, Stumbleupon.com? Well, it's a website that takes you to other websites based on your interests. It's great fun :D a few weeks ago, I stumbled upon this "gesture drawing" website... I didn't really think much of it, because I don't typically draw people... But then =Amadoodles posted some sketches a little while ago of things from the same website... I guess there was an animal option that I didn't see ^^; my bad!

Anyway... Gesture drawings are drawings that typically take between 30 seconds and 2 minutes to draw. They're mainly to help artists get the general pose and character of an animal (or person,) down on paper without any unnecessary details... On this website [link] you can choose a category of animals (or people) and you can set a time limit. Whatever time/category you choose, a bunch of pictures will play in a slideshow at certain intervals. With this one, I selected it to play a slideshow of mammals at 30 second intervals... With each photo that popped up, I only had that much time to quick draw out the pose before the image changed... It took a few tries to get used to, but I still enjoyed it :D

It's GREAT to practice with. If you struggle with anatomy or poses, try doing some of these gesture drawings. You can't afford to worry about details, as you really only have time to sketch out the pose.

Oh, and the animals in this one, from left to right, top to bottom:

Calf (baby cow,) monkey (not sure exactly what species,) miniature horse/pony

Mouse, house cat, giraffe

Horse, horse, and another horse XD

I struggle with drawing horses... So I was actually REALLY happy that they gave me so many different pictures to work with.

Now go! Try this website out! [link] I shrunk my internet window to take up the left side of the screen, with photoshop on the right, but it's really up to you how you want to orient your computer screen.

OOH! We're diong gesture drawings of still lifes in Drawing right now! We started out with just drawing a tablecloth all scrunched up and draped over a table and stuff, but then today, there was a massive collection of random objects all set up, and we had to do gesture drawings of it....it was hard xD
And I love stumbleupon! Its so much fun! :)
Ooh, that website looks sweet! I think I'm gonna try it :) Btw, these look really good. I think the bottom right horse is the best, you really get the feeling of motion. :)
